MCLEANSBORO — The McLeansboro City Council approved interim construction financing for the city’s new water tower project at Tuesday night’s meeting.

Two-point-four million dollars will be financed through Peoples National Bank at an interest rate of 5.7 percent.

In other business, the council approved the Hamilton County Economic Development Commission’s recommendation to use TIF money to improve facades on the buildings on the square.

No action was taken on the intergovernmental agreement with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office for central dispatch. Both sides continue to discuss the matter.

City streets will be improved as the council approved using $73,000 in motor fuel expenditures to oil and chip or reseal streets. Curb and gutter work will also be included.

The city will also be meeting with Don and Ann Burke to work out details after city leaders decided to modify the TIF agreement for the Burkes’ property on West St. Charles Street. No TIF funds were available due to a clerical error by the county.

And requests by Ten Mile Baptist Church, the Relay for Life Bass Tournament and the Hamilton County Crappie Tournament Association to use Lake McLeansboro for upcoming events was approved.
