CENTRALIA — A 25-year-old Murphysboro man was apprehended Wednesday night by Centralia police after multiple area agencies had been searching for him in connection with an armed robbery in DuQuoin.

Shequel Sleydin was a suspect in an armed robbery Wednesday afternoon in DuQuoin. He reportedly fled the scene in a 2008 Navy Blue Chevy Impala and led police on a high-speed chase.

Sleydin managed to avoid capture at that time and area agencies joined in the search for him.

According to a Facebook post by Sesser Police, around 4:42 p.m. police found a vehicle believed to have been involved in an armed robbery in Du Quoin.

The vehicle sped away from a Sesser officer and was last seen at 4:50 p.m. A number of police agencies tried to find the vehicle.

Shortly after 8 p.m., Centralia police located the suspect in the area of 12th and Case in Wamac. He reportedly ran on foot from police and was headed toward a house but officers were able to catch him before he entered the home and took him into custody.

He was held at the Centralia Police Department until DuQuoin officers arrived and transported him to the Perry County Jail, where he remains this morning.
