MARION — A 31-year-old Marion man was pronounced dead by the Williamson County Coroner’s Office as a result of a gunshot wound suffered early Sunday morning at Red Zone Bar on Route 37 in Whiteash.

According to Coroner Michael “Junior” Burke, the shooting happened around 2 a.m. in the bar’s parking lot. The victim was taken to Herrin Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be conducted.

Burke says a suspect was taken into custody for aggravated battery with a firearm. Additional charges are pending.

The shooting is currently under investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, The Williamson County Coroner’s Office and the Williamson County State’s Attorney’s office.
