MARION COUNTY — A 38-year-old Wamac woman remains in the Marion County Jail in connection with an incident Tuesday in which she allegedly attacked her daughter with a box cutter.

Scenica Wilson was formally charged in court Thursday with Class 3 felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Reports indicate Wilson’s 20-year-old daughter had gone to Wilson’s Kroger Avenue home Tuesday to get some of her belongings.

The daughter says that when she got inside the home her mother attempted to cut her face with the box cutter.

A struggle ensued with both women falling onto a bed where the daughter found a flashlight and struck her mother in the head several times.

Police were notified and spoke to Wilson Tuesday when she reportedly told them she had been attacked by someone outside her home. She refused medical treatment for her injuries.

Officers then located Wilson’s daughter and found she also had head injuries. She was taken to SSM St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment and told officers about the box cutter incident.

Following an investigation, police took Wilson into custody Wednesday. Bail has been set at $5,000 with special conditions of release to have no contact with her daughter or her residence.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for August 7.
