JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 32-year-old Vandalia man was sentenced Thursday in Jefferson County court to six-years in prison after he pleaded guilty to felony delivery of methamphetamine.

Ryan Smith was facing two Class X felony counts of armed violence, Class 2 felony delivery of less than 5 grams of meth, and Class 3 felony delivery of a non-narcotic controlled substance.

He pleaded guilty Thursday to the Class 2 charge in exchange for the others being dismissed. Smith had been released from the Jefferson County Jail after posting $10,000 cash bond a few days after his December arrest during a traffic stop.

That $10,000 bond has been applied to $10,000 in fines and fees agreed to in plea negotiations.

Police reports indicate Mt Vernon police officers located a loaded pistol, methamphetamine, Schedule IV narcotics, packaging materials, a weighing scale, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia when searching Smith’s vehicle following that stop. The vehicle and currency were seized pending forfeiture.

At the time of his arrest in Mt. Vernon, Smith was free on $5,000 cash bond from Clinton County where he is facing nine drug-related charges in Clinton County stemming from an October traffic stop.

Smith is still facing charges in Clinton County of Class X felony delivery of between 15 and 100 grams of meth, two Class 1 felony charges, one for the manufacture with the intent to deliver cocaine and one for the manufacture with the intent to deliver heroin, two counts Class 3 possession of Schedule 4 narcotics, Two counts possession Scheduled 1 and 2 narcotics, Class 4 felony delivery of between 10 and 30 grams of cannabis, and misdemeanor possession of hypodermic syringe.

After he was released on bond in Jefferson County, Smith was arrested in Bond County on a Class X charge of delivery of between 15 and 100 grams of meth, Class 1 felony charges of possessing between 15 and 100 grams of meth and intent to deliver between 1 and 15 grams of Fentanyl, as well as Class 3 charges of possession of a firearm with a revoked FOID, and delivery of a controlled substance, along with two Class 4 felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and one of intent to deliver between 10 and 30 grams of cannabis.

The charges in Bond County remain pending, as well.
