No one was hurt after a house fire Wednesday night in Mt. Vernon.

911 received a call just before 10:45 p.m. about the fire in the 600 block of S. 25th Street in Mt. Vernon, near Veterans Park.

Mt. Vernon Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Sargent says the fire caused heavy damage to the home. He says the back side of the home suffered the heaviest fire damage, while the front of the home suffered smoke, heat, and water damage.

Sargent says the fire started in the backyard of the home and spread to the building. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
