A 29-year-old Salem man was sentenced Tuesday in Marion County court to 3-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in connection with a 2016 conviction for battery of a peace officer.

Andrew Howell was first arrested on the charge in June of 2016, but was found unfit to stand trial just a month later. He was remanded into the custody of the Department of Human Services for treatment and was found fit that December.

Howell then pleaded guilty a few weeks later to the Class 2 felony charge and was sentenced to four-years probation. A petition to revoke that probation was filed this past January and Howell admitted to part of the petition in May.

In addition to the prison sentence, Howell will have to serve 2-years mandatory supervised release upon completion of his prison term. He’ll receive day for day and credit for time served. Howell was ordered to pay almost $120 in restitution.
