A 19-year-old Central City man is in the Clinton County Jail on multiple weapons charges after he allegedly jumped from a vehicle during an attempted traffic stop Friday morning in Centralia.

According to Centralia police, Caidin Cook was a passenger in a vehicle being stopped near the intersection of Penco and McCord streets when he jumped from the vehicle and fled into a nearby wooded area.

Officers pursued him and once he was spotted Cook reportedly gave up without further incident.

The Clinton County K-9 unit was called to the scene and reportedly led officers to a pistol Cook is alleged to have thrown while running into the woods. The gun had been reported as stolen in Salem.

Cook was initially taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment of injuries before being transported to the Clinton County Jail on charges of possessing a stolen firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a FOID card and resisting arrest.
